Sucking Eggs – a play about ageing

A new theatre production at Alphabetti theatre in collaboration with Newcastle University and VOICE, Sucking Eggs was co-created with members from the VOICE platform over a number of weeks in early 2020 to help create a script for a play around ageing.

Sucking Eggs will be hitting the stage in June 2021 with both live shows in person, and digital livestreams. We will also be hosting a series of 5 panel discussions exploring different themes of ageing, joined by experts from organisations such as the UK’s National Innovation Centre for Ageing, Newcastle University, Equal Arts, and the Elders Council Newcastle, as well as the creative team behind Sucking Eggs. The following is a description of the play:

Peter is in his late sixties and has accepted his ageing with grace. He is kept busy caring for his mother and his ever-growing obsessions with the “state” of the “bloody” world. His slightly younger sister Maggie, however, is kicking and spitting about getting old and determined to do so as disgracefully as possible. The siblings often nip and scratch but in times of trouble know that blood is thicker than tea.

You’re invited to book tickets for both the show, and a series of livestreamed panel discussions. You can book tickets for physical shows, livestreamed shows and all panel discussions on Alphabetti’s website here: https://www.alphabettitheatre.co.uk/whats-on
