Twenty pound note

New £20 note forgery in operation

The notes may be identified by the foil image located in the red circle, (below). When moved the wording should read Twenty then change to Pounds. If it doesn’t you may have a fake note.

If you suspect that you’ve been given a counterfeit bank note, here’s what you should do:

  1. Do Not Use It: Counterfeit banknotes are worthless, and you cannot use them for any transactions. Avoid passing it on to someone else.
  2. Take It to the Police: Visit your nearest police station and hand over the suspected counterfeit banknote. They will then fill out an NCO-1 form with a receipt and incident number
  3. Report Information: If you have any information about someone making, selling, or using counterfeit banknotes, please contact the police or phone Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.

Remember, counterfeit banknotes are rare, but it’s essential to take the appropriate steps if you come across one. By reporting it, you help maintain confidence in genuine currency and contribute to preventing further circulation of counterfeit notes.
