North East Forum on Ageing

Let’s stop ageism hurting the workforce

We’re delighted that household name Aardman Animations – home of Wallace and Gromit no less! – have joined the hundreds of companies who have already signed our Age-friendly Employer Pledge; a nationwide programme for employers who recognise the value of older workers.

Currently, employment rates drop after the age of 55, and over half of people have stopped working before state pension age. Yet we know multigenerational workforces drive productivity and innovation. The Age-friendly Employer Pledge is one way that we are campaigning to improve work for people in their 50s and 60s (and beyond).

Luisa Sanders, Senior Social Media Manager at Aardman Animations and Age-friendly Employer Pledge champion, says: “I’m delighted that Aardman has signed the ‘Age-friendly Employer Pledge’.

“Employers who don’t have age inclusive policies are missing out on a seriously valuable talent pool as in addition to ‘hard’ skills we have decades of life experience and emotional resilience that we can bring to the table too, which provides so much added value for organisations.” Could your workplace or organisation pledge to become more age-friendly? Why not ask? There are lots of simple steps an employer can take to show they value older workers. Find out more and share this link.
