Environmental and Climate-related Activities in 2024 / 2025

Community Foundation – Vital Signs

Maximum Grant Size: £10,000

Closing Date: 31st March 2025

Location(s): Gateshead, Newcastle, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland

What is funding available for?

The Community Foundation is aiming to allocate £500,000 in the 2024 / 2025 financial year to support organisations in Tyne & Wear and Northumberland to look after and enhance the environment and support the region to rise to the challenge of climate change.

Applicants are advised to read our 2024 Vital Signs report on the environment, as we are willing to consider a broad scope of applications where charitable funding can have a significant impact:

Re-wilding programmes, recycling and repurposing projects, raising awareness in communities, and improving the energy efficiency of a building are examples of activities that could be considered for funding. Projects such as community beautification (e.g. litter picking as a stand alone activity) will not be a priority, and we will look to focus on supporting smaller, local charities and community organisations.

Applications of all sizes above £1,000 are welcome, and we would also like to consider proposals with wider and / or longer-term impacts, for which more than £10,000 may be available.

If you are developing such an application, as well as multi-year initiatives, please contact either Ross Wilson or Pete Barrett in the first instance: rpw@communityfoundation.org.uk
