Below is further information about the course (including a further session to be held in Feb 2025) and attached is the full Safe Newcastle Domestic Abuse Training Programme.

What is the aim of this course?

To increase awareness and understanding of the nature, impact and complexity of domestic abuse in the older population and to highlight the services, support and multi-agency frameworks that can be used to support older people subjected to domestic abuse.

What will the course cover?

1. Understand the prevalence of domestic abuse in the older population

2. Understand the increased risk factors associated with older people and domestic abuse

3. Have an awareness of the learning from Safeguarding Adults Reviews and Domestic Homicide Reviews involving older people

4. Explore the barriers to identification and reporting of domestic abuse in older people

5. Understand the importance of carer identification and support in reducing risks

6. Have an awareness of the use of appropriate risk identification checklists

7. Have clarity on the services and support available for older victims of domestic abuse

8. Understand the relevant multi-agency procedures that should be used to share information and manage risks

Who should attend?

The course is suitable for practitioners who may encounter older people and/or carers subjected to domestic abuse, perpetrators of abuse and/or children living in families where abuse is occurring.

This training is available as either a classroom-based course or as an online course.

The classroom course takes place from 9.30am to 1.00pm at Newcastle Civic Centre on Thursday 4th July 2024
